Compact and powerful: the SailingGen at the stern of a sailing yacht
The SailingGen generates up to 12 amps at 7 knots through the water and offers a lot of power for the money at a price of 1475 euros

The spiritual father of the system is Esslingen electrical engineering professor Armin Horn. He says he was infected by the sailing virus a few years ago. Since then, as an engineer, he has been researching the improvement or new development of electrical on-board systems. Among other things, he has developed an electronic alarm for bilge water and a GPS-based anti-theft alarm system. And also the SailingGen.

The principle is well known: When travelling, a small propeller turns in the water, driving a generator which in turn produces electricity. When not in use, the stainless steel device can be swivelled out of the water. This means it does not slow down. According to the manufacturer, the yield is also good: 2 amps are available for charging at a speed of just 3 knots, and 6 to 7 amps at 5 knots. Good values, but only when the ship is travelling. At anchor, the SailingGen does not generate any power due to the system.

A ready-to-install alternator with rear bracket and rectifier is supplied for 1475 euros - available exclusively from the Webshop of the manufacturer.
